Get more active for free

To stay fit and healthy, you’re recommended to get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, that’s around 20 – 30 minutes a day.  Below provides some ideas how you can achieve at no cost.

 NL Leisure offers fantastic opportunities to get fit and active.  NLC colleagues get a discount on membership.  Are you a NLC colleague not using NL Leisure facilities at the moment and who would benefit by increasing your physical activity levels?  If your saying yes to those questions you can try NL Leisure out as part of the Active Health programmes.

The try NL Leisure out includes:

  • 8 weeks free use of all NL Leisure gyms, swimming pools and fitness classes
  • A gym induction and personalised gym programme card to follow
  • Reduced cost membership for the following 3 months at £10 a month direct debit

If you the decide to continue your membership as a NLC colleagues you can save £6 per month on a full NL Leisure Membership, paying £28.99 instead £35.

Please note the Active Health programme is available for:

  • Anyone aged 11 years plus in North Lanarkshire who would benefit by increasing their physical activity levels

  • Non members of NL Leisure, that is those not current Access NL members or haven’t been a member in the past 6 month period

The Weigh to Go programme will help you become more active, eat well and lead a healthier lifestyle.

The weekly workshops across Lanarkshire are run by a health and fitness instructor and cover topics such as identifying hidden fats and sugars, alcohol within your diet or incorporating more physical activity into your daily routine.

The programme has been a huge success with since it began with over 2000 participants aged 16 to 84 – 70 per cent of whom have lost weight.

Strathclyde Parkrun is a weekly, free 5km timed run held on Saturday mornings at Strathclyde Country Park!



Jog Scotland offers free membership to local and fun jogging groups. The friendly jogging groups are perfect for people who want to get active for the first time, or more experienced runners who want to exercise in a sociable, supportive environment. Nobody is “too slow” to join Jog Scotland, and nobody gets left behind!
