Cycle2work – next available June 2020

Cycle2work offers North Lanarkshire Council employees access to discounted bikes.

Hundreds of colleagues have got a new bike this way saving over £65,000 so far.  With Cycle2work you can be riding around on a new bike within a matter of days.

You can use your bike for cycling to work or rides around your local park or even to the beach on holiday.  You get some massive savings with Cycle2work by paying no NI or tax on the bike value plus the payment is spread over the next 12 months through salary deductions.

How does the discount work?

The discount comes from paying off the bike cost straight from your salary. This is in instalments through salary sacrifice which is free of tax and national insurance. You pay the instalments over 1 year.

How much does it cost and how much do I save?

Costs start from as little as £4.70 per 4 weekly pay over a 1 year period. The Halfords Cycle 2 Work Calculator will show what your savings could be and what your salary reductions could be. To use the calculator just enter what you’re thinking of spending on a bike and what your pay type is (2 weekly, 4 weekly etc).

What do colleagues think about it?

Hundreds of NLC colleagues are riding bikes they initially got through Cycle2work.  Here are some colleagues sharing their experiences on Cycle2work – check out the video clip of Claire Grierson from the Craigneuk Family Learning Centre who got a bike last year as did Mairi MacVicar, Active School Co-ordinator who shares her experience to the left.

Where can I get a bike from and how do I get it?

You can choose from thousands of bikes at hundreds of cycle shops including Halfords – see below.  If you choose to shop with Halfords, Cycle Republic or Tredz.co.uk you’ll also get a 20% discount on cycle parts and accessories, a one-year bike care plan and family discount voucher on Apollo bikes.
